چکیده
Wood heat treatment has been generally accepted as an effective wood modification technology it improves the dimensional stability and biological durability of wood. However, property improvements are obtained at cost reduced mechanical properties. In this study, heat-treated Douglas fir with thermally modified shell unchanged inner core was prepared by surface heating to make possible broader applications Colour comparison, dynamic vapor sorption analysis were performed characterize physico-mechanical performance treated The results reveal a darkened, hydrophobic rigid barely changed core. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy shows pronounced degradation polysaccharides in layer. contrast, relative contents different carbon components layer similar that untreated wood, indicating reason for difference between initial moisture content plays important role controlling temperature gap during can be used key parameter adjust structure

Performance Characterization of Coatings on Treated-wood
Coating performance is greatly influenced by the properties of the wood substrate. This study was focused on evaluating the performance of coatings on both preservative- and thermally-treated wood. A number of commercially formulated semi-transparent stains Alkyd, Alkyd-Acrylic and PU were applied on four different types of preservative treated and heat-treated wood and their performances were ...
متن کاملCharacteristics of heat-treated Turkish pine and fir wood after ThermoWood processing.
The Finnish wood heat treatment technology ThermoWood, was recently introduced to Turkey. Data about the mechanical and physical properties of Turkish wood species are important for industry and academia. In this study two industrially important Turkish wood species, pine (Pinus nigraArnold.) and fir (Abies bornmülleriana Matf.) were heat-treated using the ThermoWood process. Pine and fir sampl...
متن کاملEffect of Different Heat Treatment Temperatures on the Chemical Composition and Structure of Chinese Fir Wood
The properties of wood can be improved after heat-treatment. There have been many studies dealing with mechanical properties and chemical modifications of heat-treated wood. The purpose of this paper is to provide a new analysis method, to give better insights on the hemicelluloses, cellulose, and lignin contents of heat-treated wood by using Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) and two-dimension...

متن کاملEffects of live crown on vertical patterns of wood density and growth in Douglas-fir
It would be valuable economically to know what are the biological triggers for formation of mature wood (currently of high value) and (or) what maintains production of juvenile wood (currently of low value), to develop silvicultural regimes that control the relative production of the two types of wood. Foresters commonly assume the bole of softwoods produces juvenile wood within the crown and m...
